Season's Greetings! It’s December 2020 and we’re ready to celebrate with family and friends – safely and perhaps virtually too – and we look ahead to a promising new year. Thank you to our loyal HOPe community for supporting us throughout these challenging times, from attending our Facebook Live concerts — to donating to our projects — to sharing our social media links, thank you!
Together we supported urgent food, education, and healthcare projects in Peru and Honduras. When our friends from Maryknoll asked us to support a program to help trafficked women and children in Peru – we rallied and responded.
Please consider a year end donation.
When you donate to HOPe, you'll be giving the gift of health, safety, education,
and opportunity to people living in extreme poverty.
2020 Year in Review:
The United Nations World FOOD Program (WFP) warns that due to the COVID-19 pandemic 270 million are at risk of starvation and related illnesses by the end of 2020. That’s 82% higher than the pre Covid count of people facing acute HUNGER globally. HOPe is taking action and we’ve made a promise to our partners in Peru and Honduras to provide nutritious food and healthcare.
Our ACTION. With your help we have been able to:
– Continue to invest in HOPe’s work in Huaycan, Peru. Over the years, HOPe has financed the construction of two multi-use community buildings in this sprawling settlement outside of Lima. During the pandemic, HOPe donations kept the doors open so Sister Rosa and her team could provide nutritious food, education, and healthcare services to over 160 children and their families.
“On behalf of our Huaycan community, I am extending my most sincere gratitude to HOPe, for the immense support. Your organization has done wonders to help poor children and orphans, and the elderly and sick exist in a location that at times reminds me of a war zone". – Sister Rosa
– Expand our work in Honduras. HOPe works with Sister Renee and the Sisters of the Medical Missionaries of Mary in Choloma, Honduras. With your donations, HOPe helped keep the education and healthcare programs running during the pandemic and also, provided much needed food supplies.
“From March to April, we struggled but did manage to provide some home healthcare. In May, we reopened the integrated healthcare center and continued our services. We employed a second Doctor to care for the patients in the Dispensary. Thank you all for making it possible for us to continue our work.” – Sister Renee
– Support an important Maryknoll project. HOPe financially supported the LaPosadita del Buen Pastor (Little Inn of the Good Shepherd) Project in Peru managed by Maryknoll. The Center provides shelter, food, tutoring, and medical care for 22 refugee women, and children. Most of the refugees are victims of human trafficking and suffer from extreme poverty.
– Continue to expand schools in the Dominican Republic. HOPe members Billy Sullivan and Paul Greene are overseeing improvements to a public elementary school outside Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. The majority of the children in this area lost their parents in the massive Haitian earthquake, and migrated here to live with family members. To alleviate overcrowding, the project includes construction of a multi-function room, and the addition of a second-floor which will include four new classrooms.
– Our Gatherings. While we couldn’t gather for our Annual HOPe Golf Outing this summer or our popular Manhattan Club Dinner this fall, we did have two successful Facebook LIVE concerts that raised funds for urgent projects.
You can still enjoy the concerts On-Demand on Facebook
On July 12th, Mikey Coleman, Erin Lougran, Margie Mulvihill with John and John Paul Reynolds performed “live” for over 200 friends. Through your generosity, we were able to feed and provide classes for vulnerable children and their families living in Huaycan.

In October, 2020 Andy Cooney performed a special #GivingTuesday concert live for vulnerable children and their families in Honduras. Hundreds of friends and Andy Cooney fans joined us for a spirited 90-minute musical session. The funds raised went to our program in the Choloma community.
